||For the past 8 years, members of the jazz community in Chicago have come together for a week-long jazz festival designed to raise funds for hunger relief in the Chicago area. Musicians donate their performances, many of Chicago’s most popular jazz venues donate their space, and numerous people volunteer to organize and/or work at the Festival events.
Eric Schneider Quartet - 6pm-7:30pm
After earning a degree in advertising, Eric Schneider signed on with Jim Beebe’s Chicago Jazz Band. That led to a stint with the legendary jazz pianist Earl Fatha’ Hines. With Hines’ blessing Schneider accepted Count Basie’s offer to join the Count Basie Orchestra where he occupied the “hot” tenor sax chair for two years.Neal Alger's Brazillian Quartet - 8pm-9:30pm
With Neal Alger’s Brazilian Quartet you will be treated to various facets of the massive Brazilian musical universe: Jobim’s well-known bossas, the pop-influenced work of Ivan Lins and Djavan, the rootsy samba of Noel Rosa and Nelson Cavaquinho, the iconoclasm of Hermeto Pascoal, the deceiving simplicity of Caetano Veloso, the Northeastern accordion tunes of Dominguinhos, and the virtuosic chorinhos of saxophonist Pixinguinha. Viva a musica brasileira!
Ernie Denov Band - 10pm-11:30pm
Ernie Denov of Chevere de Chicago - Official. Ernie composes some of Chévere’s best loved tunes. He has been one of Chicago’s top guitarists for many years, performing with many Chicago groups and leading his own bands as well. Currently, Ernie is also a member Lt. Dan Band, along with Gary Sinise and Kimo Williams.
